A little bit of Bridal Shower Trivia
The first bridal showers are said to have come out of the earlier dowry practices. If a bride's family was too poor to provide a dowry or if a father did not approve of the marriage and refused to give a dowry, the brides friends would gather and bring gift to the bride. One of the earliest stories originated in Belgium in the 1860's. A father refused to give a dowry due to the lowly status of the groom's family. Their friends showered the bride with gifts so she would and her groom were able to set up house and begin their life together. Another story originated in the late 1800's where the guests filled a parasol with small gifts and opened it over the bride's head "showering" her with presents.
Today's Showers range from elegant traditional parties to a day at the spa or a night on the town. Anything goes. Not just for females anymore, many couples are opting to celebrate together with a “couple showers.” A common practice at today's showers is the Bridal Shower Favor. Your favors can be fun and whimsical like chocolate dipped marshmallows, candy bar favors or swirl lollipops or traditional and elegant such as personalized wine bottles or decadent chocolate dipped brownies. But don't stress too much over the details. However you celebrate or whatever you choose, remember it is just about relaxing and celebrating with the Bride-to-be.
